SUMMARY:Anomalisa - 4PM
DESCRIPTION:[col_one_third] \n \n[/col_one_third] \n[col_two_thirds ] \nAnomalisa\nScreening: Thursday\, March 17\, 2016 – 4pm\nTickets: Adults $10\, Senior/Senior $8\nLocation: Uptown Theatre\, 55 Dunlop Street West\, Barrie\nWritten by: Charlie Kauffman\nDirected by: Charlie Kauffman and Duke Johnson\nVoice talents: David Thewlis\, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tom Noonan \nAnimated Comedy-Drama\, PLEASE NOTE: THIS FILM IS RATED “18A” for sexual content\, nudity\, and coarse language\, it is NOT appropriate for young or sensitive viewers. 90 minutes (USA) \n“Kaufman and Johnson’s film is a heart-stopping masterpiece of emotional malaise and disconnection\, vividly surreal and achingly real at the same time.”  – Daniel Barnes\, Sacramento News & Review \n[/col_two_thirds] \n[col_one ] \n \nMichael Stone (David Thewlis) is a successful motivational speaker with fans across the country\, but inside him sits a knot of anxiety that renders much of his daily life meaningless. Everything and everyone just seems the same to him. But then Michael meets Lisa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) on a speaking-tour stop in Cincinnati. Lisa is an anomaly. Michael and Lisa begin with prickly\, cautious conversations and then move towards love. But\, unlike in a conventional Hollywood romance\, that romantic arc is neither simple nor obvious. The love scene at the heart of Anomalisa should instantly rocket up the list of cinema’s greatest. It’s intimate\, awkward\, heartbreaking\, and deeply erotic despite the fact that the lovers are made of felt. Returning to the themes of human connection and artistic creation that ran through his feature directorial debut\, Synecdoche\, New York\, as well as his screenplays for Being John Malkovich\, Adaptation\, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind\, Kaufman delivers an even more insightful rumination on love here\, one that finds its perfect expression in the fragility of the film team’s stop-motion figures. This is a beautiful\, one-of-a-kind romance. – Cameron Bailey\, TIFF 2015 \n  \nAwards: \nNominated\, Best Animated Feature Film of the Year\, Academy Awards\, 2016\nNominated Best Motion Picture-Animated\, Golden Globes 2016\nWon\, Best Dipiction of Nudity\, Sexuality or Seduction\, Alliance of Women Film Journalists\, 2016\nWon\, Best Animated Film\, Boston Society of Film Critics Awards\, 2015\nNominated\, Best Feature/Best Director/Best Screenplay/Best Supporting Female\, Independent Spirit Awards\, 2016\nWon\, Creative Impact in Direction Award (Charlie Kauffman) Palm Springs International Film Festival\, 2016\nWon\, Best Screenplay\, Vancouver Film Critics Circle\, 2016\nWon\, Future Film Festival Digital Award & Grand Special Jury Prize\, Venice Film Festival\, 2015 \n  \nSponsored by: \n \n  \n[embed_video video_site=”youtube” video_url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQkHA3fHk_0″ video_width=”640″ video_height=”360″ ]
