SUMMARY:WHO WE ARE - Galaxy Cinemas
DESCRIPTION:Galaxy Cinemas Barrie\, 72 Commerce Park Dr\, Barrie\, ON L4N 8W8\nTickets are $8 Senior/Student and $10 Adult\, plus service fees. \n  \n[maxbutton id=”24″ ] \n  \nDirected by: Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler\nDocumentary\, PG for violence\, coarse language\, 118 min.\, (USA) \nCLICK HERE to view the trailer. \n  \n“Who We Are should be made required viewing in every American school as we find ourselves perched\, once again\, at a pivotal tipping point.” – Matt Fagerholm\, RogerEbert.com \n  \nFormer ACLU Deputy Legal Director Jeffery Robinson had one of the best educations in America. He went to Marquette University and Harvard Law School and has been a trial lawyer for over 40 years. In 2011\, Robinson began raising his then 13-year-old nephew and\, as a Black man raising a Black son\, struggled with what to tell his son about racism in America. How\, he wondered\, did we get here? And when he started looking at American history\, Robinson was shocked by what he had not known. For the past 10 years\, in community centres\, concert halls\, houses of worship\, and conference rooms across America\, he has been sharing what he learned. In WHO WE ARE — A CHRONICLE OF RACISM IN AMERICA\, Robinson faces his largest audience\, asking all of us to examine who we are\, where we come from\, and who we want to be. Anchored by Robinson’s 2018 performance at NYC’s historic Town Hall Theatre\, the film interweaves historical and present-day archival footage\, Robinson’s personal story\, and observational and interview footage capturing Robinson’s meetings with Black change-makers and eyewitnesses to history. From a hanging tree in Charleston\, South Carolina\, to a walking tour of the origins of slavery in colonial New York\, to the site of a 1947 lynching in rural Alabama\, the film brings history to life\, exploring the enduring legacy of white supremacy and our collective responsibility to overcome it. \n  \nAwards: 5 wins\, 8 nominations\nNominated – Best Documentary\, AARP Movies for Grownups Awards\, 2022\nWinner – AAFCA Award\, Best Independent Film\, African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA)\, 2022\nNominated – Best Documentary\, Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival\, 2021\nWinner – Bridging the Borders Award\, Special Mention\, Palm Springs International Film Festival\, 2022\nWinner – Golden Space Needle Award\, Best Documentary\, Seattle International Film Festival\, 2021\nWinner – Audience Award\, Documentary Spotlight\, SXSW Film Festival\, 2021\nNominated – New Directors Competition\, Best Film\, São Paulo International Film Festival\, 2021\nWinner – Films for Change Award\, Woodstock Film Festival\, 2021 \n  \nFunded by: City of Barrie\, Ontario Trillium Foundation and Telefilm Canada \nSponsored by: Busch Systems\, Digital Giants\, Lehman & Associates\, Netgain\, Plumbtech Plumbing Inc.\, Sigma Engagement Systems\, and Venable Park Investment Council Inc. \n

SUMMARY:THE LOST LEONARDO - Galaxy Cinemas
DESCRIPTION:Galaxy Cinemas Barrie\, 72 Commerce Park Dr\, Barrie\, ON L4N 8W8\nTickets are $8 Senior/Student and $10 Adult\, plus service fees. \n  \n[maxbutton id=”21″ ] \n  \nDirected by: Andreas Koefoed\nDocumentary\, PG for coarse language\, 100 min.\, (UK) \n  \nCLICK HERE to view the trailer. \n  \n“There’s nothing quite like a good story\, well-told.” – Fionnuala Halligan\, Screen International \n“Really\, “The Lost Leonardo” is a detective story. Like any good detective story\, it’s also a morality tale.” – Mark Feeney\, Boston Globe \n  \nTHE LOST LEONARDO is the inside story behind the Salvator Mundi\, the most expensive painting ever sold at $450 million. From the moment the painting is bought for $1175 at a shady New Orleans auction house\, and the restorer discovers masterful Renaissance brushstrokes under the heavy varnish of its cheap restoration\, the Salvator Mundi’s fate is determined by an insatiable quest for fame\, money and power. As its price soars\, so do questions about its authenticity: is this painting really by Leonardo da Vinci? Unravelling the hidden agendas of the richest men and most powerful art institutions in the world\, THE LOST LEONARDO reveals how vested interests in the Salvator Mundi are of such tremendous power that truth becomes secondary. \n  \nAwards: \nNominated – Best Documentary Feature\, Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards\, 2021\nNominated – IDA Award for Best Cinematography and Music Score\, International Documentary Association\, 2022\nNominated – Bronze Horse for Best Documentary\, Stockholm Film Festival\, 2021 \n  \nFunded by: City of Barrie\, Ontario Trillium Foundation and Telefilm Canada \nSponsored by: Busch Systems\, Digital Giants\, Lehman & Associates\, Netgain\, Plumbtech Plumbing Inc.\, Sigma Engagement Systems\, and Venable Park Investment Council Inc. \n
