Annual Barrie Film Festival

September 23 - October 3, 2022

The festival began in 1997 and over the years has grown to a multifaceted ten-day event. The line-up is a showcase of award-winning independent feature films from all over the globe with a significant emphasis on Canadian content as well as the screening of short films and a short film competition. The number of offsite additions has expanded over the years to include, galas, educational workshops and guest Q&As to further enhance the excitement of the festival.

Reel Stories

March 24 - March 27, 2022

The socially conscious Reel Stories program is primarily concerned with raising awareness and highlighting current issues in the world. It began in 2005. This annual mini-film festival typically takes place in February but has taken place in March for 2021 and 2022.

Central Ontario Youth Short Film Festival

The Barrie Film Festival is excited to announce that we’ve added a new program for high school age filmmakers. Please join us in applauding the launch of the Central Ontario Youth Short Film Festival (COYSFF), a qualifying festival for the Ontario Youth Film Festival (OYFF). We want you to take your imagination to places it’s never gone and share your experience through short film! Using any and all cinematic equipment at your disposal, including smartphones, explore your ideas and tell us your stories.
